[ Institution ]

Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, Stuttgart

All over the world, the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa) promotes cultural exchange, dialogue between civil societies, and communication of information on foreign cultural policy.
As the leading German institution active in international cultural exchange, ifa develops and organises exhibitions of German art worldwide. It supports exhibition projects and awards stipends. The ifa galleries in Stuttgart and Berlin present art, architecture, and design from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
In exchange programmes and international conferences, ifa brings together people from different cultures and facilitates civil conflict resolution. Moreover, it supports the development of structures of civil society especially in Central, Eastern, and South Eastern Europe by a media aid programme.
Its specialised library in Stuttgart, the “Zeitschrift für KulturAustausch” (journal on cultural exchange) and ifa’s web portals are the most important forums for information on foreign cultural policy in Germany.
ifa is financially supported by the Federal Foreign Office, the State of Baden-Württemberg, and its capital, the City of Stuttgart. Besides, ifa is actively involved in various projects with domestic and international partners such as foundations and international organisations.

Motorenhalle – Project Centre for Contemporary Art, Dresden

Motorenhalle Project Centre, a former factory hall, is a venue for experimentation in artistic work relating to the community. The focus is on projects with artists that are not yet established, which are often realised by guest curators. Accompanying programmes illuminate the respective political, social, cultural, or scholarly contexts of the projects and the persons involved. The project centre has special relations to informal art groups in the Central and Eastern European countries. While project periods are flexible, regular series of talks or events hold a firm place in the project centre. Documentation of the projects and its publication on the Web are carried out step by step. An artistic advisory committee supervises the work of the project centre.
