Künstlerhaus Stuttgart
[Artists’ House, Stuttgart]
The non-profit association Künstlerhaus Stuttgart Reuchlinstraße e.V. was founded in 1978 on the initiative of visual artists. The house is a Stuttgart institution that has gained international renown through its individual disposition as a place of production for artists and as a platform for art-theoretical discourse. But it has also become an indispensable place of exchange for the local art scene. Its success rests on its independent yet cooperating divisions—artistic direction, free projects, and workshops. The workshops can be used by all house members.

Kulturstiftung des Bundes
Kulturstiftung des Bundes (The German Federal Cultural Foundation) was founded in 2002 by the German Government to support art and cultural projects in an international context. Innovative project formats in different cultural sectors are to be developed, and the emphasis of support lies within the field of contemporary cultural production. In addition to providing “General Project Funding”, which is also open to application from abroad, the Federal Cultural Foundation develops its own projects, in particular within the scope of its programmes “Art and the City”, “Cultural Aspects of German Unification”, “Cultural Challenges of 9/11”, “Migration” – and finally the programme “Eastern and Central Europe”, to which Büro Kopernikus belongs. As a successor project to Büro Kopernikus’ German-Polish cultural projects, the Federal Cultural Foundation has started the initiative “bipolar – deutsch-ungarische kulturprojekte”, which in 2006/2007 will fund German-Hungarian cooperations.

L

Laźnia Nowa, Cracow/Nowa Huta
Łaźnia Nowa is the youngest cultural institution of the City of Kraków and it works on the terrain of the post-industrial district Nowa Huta. Its programme is realised in cooperation with European partners, in coproductions and authors’ projects, as well as in interaction with the local public. Łaźnia Nowa’s projects combine artistic with social activity – performances, festivals, concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and multimedia presentations, encounters and workshops take place in a large area of former factory buildings. In addition, the theatre publishes the free monthly “Lodołamacz – pismo ludzi walczących” (“Icebreaker”). The projects are also realised outside of Łaźnia Nowa’s premises. Thus the revitalisation of Nowa Huta through artistic activities takes place in its streets, backyards, and concrete tower blocks.

Motorenhalle – Project Centre for Contemporary Art, Dresden
Motorenhalle Project Centre, a former factory hall, is a venue for experimentation in artistic work relating to the community. The focus is on projects with artists that are not yet established, which are often realised by guest curators. Accompanying programmes illuminate the respective political, social, cultural, or scholarly contexts of the projects and the persons involved. The project centre has special relations to informal art groups in the Central and Eastern European countries. While project periods are flexible, regular series of talks or events hold a firm place in the project centre. Documentation of the projects and its publication on the Web are carried out step by step. An artistic advisory committee supervises the work of the project centre.
