Grzegorz Lato

Der polnische Rekordnationalspieler, der 104 Spiele für sein Land bestritt und dabei 45 Tore erzielte, gehörte zusammen mit Deyna und Szarmach zur goldenen Ära (1972-1982) des polnischen Teams. Grzegorz Lato nahm an insgesamt 3 WM-Turnieren teil und erreichte mit der polnischen Mannschaft bei der WM 1974 in Deutschland und bei der WM 1982 in Spanien jeweils den 3. Platz. 1974 bei der WM in Deutschland war Lato mit sieben Toren überraschend der beste Torschütze des Turniers. 1972 wurde er zusammen mit der polnischen Auswahl Olympiasieger, 1976 erhielten sie die olympische Silbermedaille.
Grzegorz Lato wurde 1950 in Malbork geboren und graduierte 1969 als Maschinen-Techniker. Als Profi-Spieler verbrachte er die meiste Zeit beim polnischen Club Stal Mielec, mit dem er 1973 und 1976 den Meistertitel gewann. 1980 erhielt er vom polnischen Fußballverband die Berechtigung im Ausland zu spielen und nutzte diese Möglichkeit mit einem Wechsel zum belgischen Verein KSC Lokeren, gefolgt von einer Verpflichtung bei Atlanta de Mexico. Seit 1992 trainierte er mehrere polnische Vereine: neben seinem Heimatverein Stal Mielec unter anderem noch Olimpia Poznań, Amika Wronki und Widzew Łódź.
Vor kurzer Zeit hat er eine politische Karriere begonnen und war bis 2005 Senator der Demokratischen Linken.


Rudi Michel

Der Sport- und Medienjournalist, Rundfunkmoderator und Sprecher wurde 1921 in Kaiserslautern geboren. Nach Kriegsende absolvierte er eine Banklehre, wechselte dann aber 1948 als Journalist zum Südwestfunk (SWF). Ab 1962 war er Hauptabteilungsleiter Sport (Hörfunk und Fernsehen) beim SWF. Seine besondere Vorliebe gehörte immer dem Fußball. Ab 1954 war er Berichterstatter aller Fußball-WM-Spiele und kommentierte fünf Finalspiele für das ARD-Fernsehen. Michel gestaltete auch viele TV-Sendungen zum Thema Sport, u.a. „Sport in der Karikatur“, „Faszination Fußball“, „Sport als Medizin“ sowie eine 13-teilige "Fußballschule" (gemeinsam mit Dettmar Cramer). 1988 ging Rudi Michel in Pension.

Tomasz Waldoch

Tomasz Waldoch wurde 1971 in Danzig geboren. Bis 1994 spielte er bei Stoczniowiec Gdańsk und Górnik Zabrze, dann wechselte er in die Bundesliga. Bis 1999 war er für den VfL Bochum aktiv und wechselte anschließend zu Schalke 04, wo er zu Saisonbeginn 2000/01 zum Kapitän avancierte. Er bestritt mittlerweile über 150 Bundesligaspiele. Tomasz Waldoch ist auch Kapitän der polnischen Nationalmannschaft und bestritt über 60 Länderspiele.


Dr. Diethelm Blecking

Diethelm Blecking was born in 1948 in Rees on the lower Rhine. He studied history, sports, and philosophy in Münster (Germany) and Poznań (Poland). He earned his doctorate at the Freie Universität Berlin and his “Habilitation” at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal. Diethelm Blecking is “Privatdozent” at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg/Breisgau and professor at the Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego in Poznań. His publications span the areas of history of sport, sport and migration, and sport and literature. He also writes political essays and travel essays.
In addition, Diethelm Blecking works as an author for the radio (artistic, literary contributions for Deutschlandfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur, SWR, NDR).

Christian Eichler

Christian Eichler wurde 1959 in Wanne-Eickel geboren und wuchs also dort auf, wo das deutsche Fußballherz schlägt. Nach dem Studium in Köln arbeitete er von 1984-1988 als Diplombibliothekar in verschiedenen Bonner Ministerien. Daneben schrieb er freiberuflich als Sportjournalist für zahlreiche Zeitungen (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Kicker, Sportillustrierte, Welt und Welt am Sonntag). Seit 1989 ist Christian Eichler Mitglied der Sportredaktion der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung, die kürzlich zum siebten Mal als „Sportredaktion des Jahres“ ausgezeichnet wurde. Für seine journalistischen Arbeiten erhielt er 1991 den Großen Preis des Verbandes Deutscher Sportjournalisten und 1994 den Fairplay-Preis für Sportjournalismus. Christian Eichler ist verheiratet und hat zwei Söhne (Berufswünsche: Torwart und Stürmer). Er wohnt in der Nähe von Brüssel. Jeden Montag beweist er als aktiver Dilettant, dass ihm gute Ballbehandlung in Wort und Tat am Herzen liegt.

Grzegorz Kopaczewski

Grzegorz Kopaczewski was born in1977 and is a graduate of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice.
He works as a feature writer at “Ultramaryna”, a cultural magazine for Upper Silesia. He became well known in Poland through his debut as a writer “Global Nation. Obrazki z czasów popkultury” [Global Nation. Images from Times of Popular Culture; Czarne Publishers, Wołowiec 2004]. The book tells the story of an international group of young people on the narrow ridge between adolescence and adulthood who live together in London and try to find their own way.
Currently Kopaczewski is working on an altogether different book. Under the title “Huta” he is developing a multi-layered novel with the ever-recurring debate about scientific progress at its centre.
Grzegorz Kopaczewski lives in Chorzów. He is an avowed fan of the local football club Ruch Chorzów and a member of the club magazine’s permanent staff.


Wojciech Kuczok

Kuczok was born in 1972 in Chorzów. The young Polish poet, prose author, film critic and screenplay writer now lives in Cracow. In 2000, he was nominated for the NIKE prize, the most important Polish literature award, for his prose debut “Opowiesci slychane” (Overheard Stories). Three years later, in 2003, he was awarded “Polityka” magazine’s literature prize for the story “Gnój” (“Muck”) which was also awarded the NIKE prize a year later. This made Kuczok the youngest ever winner of the award.
Wojciech Kuczok writes for the magazines “Twórczość“, “Tygodnik Powszechny“ and others. His debut as a screenplay writer came with the script for the successful feature film “Pręgi” (Poland, 2003), which won the Golden Lion for 2004 at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
Wojciech Kuczok was also a contact person during the journalist’s educational visit to Upper Silesia organized by Büro Kopernikus.

Dirk Schümer

Dirk Schümer was born in 1962 in Soest. From 1991 he worked as an editorial journalist for the arts pages of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Since 1999 he is the paper’s correspondent in Venice.
He wrote “Gott ist rund. Die Kultur des Fußballs” [“God Is Round: The Culture of Football”] (Suhrkamp, 1998).

Prof. Ludwik Stomma

Der Ethnologe, Kulturanthropologe und Publizist Ludwik Stomma wurde 1950 geboren. Bevor er 1981 nach Frankreich übersiedelte, war er als Dozent an der Universität Warschau, der Katholischen Universität Lublin und der Jagiellonen-Universität in Krakau tätig, zudem arbeitete er am Kunstinstitut der Staatlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Seit 1983 ist Stomma Professor an der Pariser Sorbonne. Er hat bisher 14 Bücher veröffentlicht; neben historischen und biografischen Werken auch vier wissenschaftliche und zwei Kinderbücher. Stomma ist außerdem Feuilletonist beim polnischen Nachrichtenmagazin „Polityka“ und schreibt für „Kuchnia“, „Motomagazyn“, „Elle“, „Hustler“ und „Cosmopolitan“. Desweiteren ist er Redakteur von „Konteksty“.

Agnieszka Grzybkowska

Agnieszka Grzybkowska, geboren 1961 in Poznań (Polen), studierte Germanistik an der Warschauer Universität. Seit 1983 ist sie als freischaffende Übersetzerin und Dolmetscherin für Polnisch tätig. Agnieszka Grzybkowska lebt in Berlin.


Dr. Olaf Kühl

Olaf Kühl was born in 1955 in Sanderbusch, Kreis Friesland. After graduating from a secondary school with emphasis on Latin and Greek in Wilhelmshaven, he enrolled in Slavic Studies as well as Eastern European and Contemporary History at the Freie Universität Berlin. He completed his studies with a thesis on Nikolaj Gogol in Soviet literary criticism of the 1920. In 1995 he earned his Ph.D. with his dissertation “Stilistik einer Verdrängung. Zur Prosa von Witold Gombrowicz”, supervised by Prof. Witold Kosny at the Freie Universität Berlin.
Since 1982 Olaf Kühl has worked as a translator of Polish literature, to a lesser extent also as a translator of Russian, Ukrainian, and Serbo-Croatian literature, with a total of 121 works so far. He is the author of articles in the history of literature and literary criticism (which appeared, e.g., in “Kindlers Literaturlexikon”, the magazines “Akzente”, “Schreibheft”, and “Teksty Drugie”, and the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”). Moreover, he writes expert opinions about Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian authors for the publishing houses Suhrkamp, Carl Hanser, Piper, Luchterhand, Rowohlt, and others. Olaf Kühl gives lectures, participates in readings, and holds workshops on the translation of literature (Berlin, Munich, Radom, Regensburg, Lviv). From 1988 to 1996 he worked as an interpreter and translator of Polish, Russian, and Serbo-Croatian for Berlin’s Governing Mayor. Since 1996 he has been a consultant on Russia for Berlin’s Governing Mayor (Senatskanzlei).
In 2005 he was awarded the Deutsche Jugendliteraturpreis and the Karl-Dedecius-Preis.


Kornel Miglus

Kornel Miglus was born in 1957 in Tarnowskie Góry, Upper Silesia. He studied philosophy, linguistics, and psychology in Poland, the USA, and Germany. Subsequently he was a doctoral candidate at the AI Institute in Berlin. His cinematic education comprised the three large areas of production (DFFB/Berlin, Hunter College/New York), direction (with K. Kieślowski EFA/Amsterdam, Y. Bogayewicz/Berlin) and screenplay (Schlesinger and Cunningham, SOURCES, Julien Friedman).
Since 1994 Kornel Miglus has directed the film office of the Polish Institute in Berlin. In 1996/97 he was a member of the editorial board of “ABC des Films” for “Radiomultikulti” of the radio station Sender Freies Berlin. In the academic year 1997/98 he taught screenplay and film analysis at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Between 1997 and 1999 he held film workshops at the Spremberg correctional facility. Since 1998 he has organised documentary workshops for adolescents on a regular basis. In 2006 he established the foundation “Nowa Ameryka”.

Elwira Niewiera

Elwira Niewiera was born in 1976 in Racibórz. From 1995 to 1997 she studied German language and literature as well as theatre studies in Wrocław und Berlin. In 1997 she started her acting training at the Europäisches TheaterInstitut Berlin. In 1999/2000 she studied European ethnology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From 2000 to 2002 Elwira Niewiera was at the Centre for Theatre Practices “Gardzienice” near Lublin, where she studied acting and singing. In 2002 she participated in the Moving Academy for Performing Arts in Amsterdam.
