In Warsaw, downtown skyscrapers are shooting upwards, while out in the country, village people stand at the roadside trying to sell a basket of mushrooms or a jar of cranberries. Everything is possible, or rien ne va plus? Poland’s unemployment rate is the highest in the European Union. The strong growth which occurred at the end of the 90s did not have a positive effect on the job market. Like a dachshund, whose head and tail are separated by a long and ever-growing spine, so the gap between the city and country is widening ever more extremely.
